New stars for Hollywood?
After arriving at the Los Angeles airport (LAX) I met Tobi and Marc at their terminal at the airport and we took a cab to the USA Hostel Hollywood. $50, fair enough. After a short tour through the hostel we decided to participate at the hostels “All you can eat buffet” with as many burgers and hot dogs as ever you wanted. Being totally sated we dressed up for the upcoming Pub / Club crawl which led us to two Bars and two Clubs on the Hollywood Blvd. And actually I have to say that I really liked it. We started with a little walk on the Walk of Fame and hit a Mexican Bar / Restaurant where some Mexican gastronomic specialities waited for us. After one drink we went to very nice, but expansive, Club called KRESS. Unfortunately the crawl led us to another bar and then to another Club which was nice as well but not crowded enough. We should have stood the whole night at the KRESS club. I don’t know what time it was we went back to the hostel but it was a short night though.
In the next morning we decided to go to see the world famous Hollywood sign, of course. After a little walk to the bus stop and waiting there about half an hour we switched over to a cab instead. Unfortunately the cab driver brought us to the wrong spot and we were actually very far away from the sign. Marc and I went to some rock climbing to get closer which actually was quite dangerous but what do you do just to get a nice view, huh? Finally we reached a jut and were able to take some nice pictures of the sign, which you’re able to see in my gallery on Google. Some bottles of water later we took another cab to leave the hills and went to the Chinese Theater on the Hollywood Blvd where all the stars and the famous foot and hand prints of all these movie stars are located. And of course we had to take a tour through Beverly Hills and Bel Air to visit the nice places where all the stars are living at. A lot of pretty nice houses over there but I have to say a lot of these stars don’t have the best taste.
Back from the tour we went to a nice burger place and ate probably the best burgers in town at Lucky Devils, a very nice burger place. Back in the hostel after dinner we get dressed and went to the lounge of our hostel and had some drinks over there. Maybe some drinks to much, but nevermind. After another short night Tobi, Marc and I went together to the Universal Studios in Universal City. And even if the roller coasters are very short it was very fun and nice to see some original sets e.g. the front yard scene of the show “Desperate Housewives” and so on. And you know what? The first time I rode some roller coasters and actually I liked it. Fucking amazing, dude. Yeah, and what else? We had dinner next to the Universal Studios and went home to the hostel after that where five or six American comedians tried to be funny. Unfortunately they sucked hard and it wasn’t fun at all. After two wasted hours of time Marc and I decided to have some drinks in the hostels lounge but Tobi wanted to go out again and so we splitted.
After another very short night we had to check out of the hostel at 10am and took a cab to the hostel at 11am. Unfortunately my flight was late and I normally had to wait four hours for it on the airport. But guess what? The previous flight was still at the Los Angeles airport which originally should have taken of to San Francisco at around 10 o’clock. So I decided to ask at the front desk of the Gate to switch over to the earlier flight, and it worked. So far so good. Arriving San Francisco almost two hours later waiting for my luggage on the baggage claim wasn’t that funny because my suitcase was still in Los Angeles. So I had to wait on the San Francisco airport for about two and a half hours for my suitcase before I was able o hit the BART to make my way back home to study for my two mid-terms I had this week.
Short summary: Los Angeles is a huge city, you’ll need a car if you want to go around. Hollywood was quite fun, the hostel as well. Crazy people over there. Many Australians from Melbourne. But no I need some culture again, I guess. Every house, every street looks exactly the street or the house one block ago. But nice to see all these things with you own eyes. I think it was worth it and with the current currency rate from Euro to US-Dollars it was almost for free. No, just kidding. ;)
So, now I’m really tired and I think I’m going to bed now. Have a nice weekend. The next upcoming blog post will be about some general stuff here in the States and San Francisco and what happens here every week and in the university. See you later.
